POKOTABI / PLACES WORTH A DETOUR

Ten

中華そば 天

Ten’s back-fat Chinese-style soba may look rich, but some diners find it surprisingly mild. Fine noodles, garlic and Jujo’s signature karashi-yaki round out the menu.

01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Ten’s back-fat Chinese-style soba may look as though it will be intensely rich, but diners have described it as surprisingly mild, with the fat less noticeable than expected. One diner enjoyed a bowl of relatively thin, firm noodles topped with chashu pork, spinach, wakame seaweed, nori and spring onion. Another praised the pairing of sweet back fat with the noodles, and the way grated garlic complemented the refreshing chashu. Diners can also season the bowl with garlic or pepper to suit their taste.

Another draw is karashi-yaki, listed on the menu as a Jujo speciality. Despite its name, diners have described it as a garlicky, sweet-and-savoury dish rather than one defined by mustard heat. Some found the tofu-and-pork dish easy to eat, while others felt its sweetness stood out. Choosing it on its own or as part of a small set can be a good way to see how it suits your palate.

Ramen is the mainstay, with options including chicken-and-salt soba and curry ramen, as well as rice-bowl curry and mini ramen. That makes it easy to tailor a meal to your appetite or mood. In the evening, the menu also offers bottled beer, Hoppy sets, shochu highballs and other chūhai drinks, alongside snacks such as a two-style chashu platter and boiled gyoza. The restaurant is described as suitable for dining alone, and you could also settle in with a drink and a few small plates before finishing with noodles.
